A Reference Guide to Surviving Nature
I love being outdoors – solo, with my children, with friends and family – every chance I get, I’m hiking, camping, or just sitting somewhere in nature, enjoying what’s around me.
Over the years as I’ve worked with more and more people in my wilderness survival classes, I’ve come to realize that what’s stopping many folks from getting outside and enjoying all the benefits of time in nature is fear that stems from a lack of knowledge.
My co-author Shawn Clay and I wrote A Reference Guide to Surviving Nature: Outdoor Preparation and Remedies to help everyone from outdoor first-timers to well-seasoned campers and hikers gain the confidence to get you and your loved ones outdoors and to feel safe and secure doing it.
It took a full year to complete the guide because we wanted to be sure we covered all the basics of wilderness emergency preparedness, right down to exactly what gear you should carry on you for the safety of you and your family, and how to use it. We included what you need to know to manage the basics in a wilderness situation: fire, shelter, water, food, first aid, and signaling. This book will also teach you the various plant, insect, animal, and weather threats that may affect you, coupled with color photos for easy identification. In the Reference Guide to Surviving Nature, we also cover both modern and natural suggestions for field medicine.
Here’s a breakdown of everything that went into creating this survival guide:
– Emergency Kits: Gear Selection and How to Use
– Poisonous Plants: How to Identify, Color Photos, and Treatment
– Insects, Spiders, & Ticks: Color photos for ID and information on first aid if contact occurs
– Critters that Walk, Stalk, & Slither: Best practices along with color photos for ID
– Wicked Weather: From Frostbite to Hypothermia: How to avoid and treat
– Basic Wilderness First Aid
– Planning a Fun and Safe Outing
– Pocket Emergency Field Kit and Checklist
– Appendix and Resource Guide: Medicinal Plants, Recipes, Gear, Notes, and much more!
I’m thrilled to be able to share my knowledge in this book and hope you find the information and inspiration you need to get outside into the wilderness, more often, or maybe for the first time ever.
