A Few of My Favorite Things (and a few more!)
I love sharing information about the tools and resources I use every day, whether it’s during one of the wilderness survival skills classes I teach, an interview or podcast, or conversations on social media. Below are my “daily dozen” that I just can’t do without. I hope you love them as much as I do.
Caraway Cookware, Bakeware, & Food Storage
Caraway is what I use at home. It’s quality eco-friendly ceramic cookware & bakeware, free of PTFE (such as Teflon), lead, cadmium, and other toxic materials that can leach into your food. Sets come equipped with easy-to-use storage solutions to keep your kitchen organized and pristine. Plus, it’s non-stick and gorgeous to boot, with many colors to choose from.
Herbal Face Food
Herbal Face Food is my favorite face serum. It hydrates, decreases wrinkles, boosts elasticity, calms inflammation, and gives my skin a youthful glow. Remember, 70% of what you put on your skin absorbs into your bloodstream. These serums are 100% plants with no synthetic ingredients (they’re even safe to eat!).
My favorites are the Serum and the Cream. The potent serum is packed with anti-oxidants & phytonutrients that heal your skin at the cellular level and address the top signs of aging in 3 days or less (no kidding!). The cream is the most potent moisturizer ever tested and contains 102 of the planet’s most ant-aging botanicals. 100% plant-powered with 50+ SPF. I use them daily! Find yours today – your face is worth it!
Dovetail Workwear for Women
My busy, physical lifestyle requires clothing that provides comfort, durability and needs to fit and move with my body. I’m in awe with the quality of Dovetail Workwear designed for women, by women. The luxury of natural fitting fashion that yields enough stretch for ease in movement, constructed of heavy-duty material, with plenty of deep pockets for storage is what Dovetail gives me with their Freshly Bib Overalls, Britt Utility Pants, and Apelian Utility Work Fleece.
Foraging Bandana
I always carry a bandana, and this is my choice as it doubles as a foraging field guide. I love the beauty and functionality of the Wazoo Foraging Bandana as an accessory that is also a tool. I love it not only because I helped with the design, but because it’s lightweight and an easy to carry reference guide. Tie the bandana around your head, neck, wrist or however you wish to carry it and access it when you need to reference foraging questions. Perfect on hot days: just wet and tie around your neck for quick cooling.
Blushield
As technology continues to expand with new and more progressive trends, there is a real concern when it comes to EMF exposure. People are exposed to radiation via a variety of electronics, from cell phones to microwaves. Blushield provides me with the safety I want to protect my family. Specifically, I use products that protect a large area around my home and portable products that I use while traveling. I like the convenience and ease of Blushield products, but more importantly, the comfort of knowing a crucial layer of protection is in place for my family’s health.
Bushcraft Firestarter Necklace
I am a huge fan of accessories that double as useful, functional tools. While some see my everyday favorite necklace as a beautiful, unique piece of jewelry I’m always pleased with the surprise when I share that it’s also a two-piece fire starter tool. The Bushcraft Firestarter Necklace is an innovative accessory inspired by traditional “Flint & Steel” methods of starting a fire. It’s a fashion-forward, piece of jewelry anyone can wear that’s a real lifesaver.
Anti-Inflammatory Blend
I do a lot to manage my Multiple Sclerosis but there are moments when inflammation does not care. My go-to while keeping inflammation at bay is PuraThrive Curcumin Gold. Curcumin Gold is the world’s only product that combines turmeric, ginger, and plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, This is an herbal powerhouse for joint support.
Stainless Steel Water Bottle Kit with Nesting Cup
Some important items to have when the call of the wild is whispering an invite include a good canteen and something to cook with. That’s why I’m crazy about the Pathfinder Bottle and Nesting Cup Set. Rugged but lightweight, this container provides convenient storage for food or beverage but also doubles as durable cookware. It’s made with 304 stainless steel to withstand heat and resist corrosion. This is a good, sturdy functional bottle for anyone.
Ferro Rod Firestarter
There is no denying the importance of a good utility apparatus to keep in the car, use at home, carry on a camping/hiking trip, or wherever life may find you. The Ferro Rod Firestarter is the perfect, lightweight multi-functional tool with surprising benefits. It’s a must-have on my checklist weighing only three ounces with a single piece that acts as a ruler, hex wrench, concave tinder scraper, and map scale paired with a thick Bushcraft Fire Steel rod for super easy fire starting. See a quick video tutorial about starting a fire safely with this tool, even while wet.
High Density Foam Roller
A foam roller is the perfect piece of lightweight equipment to manage many fitness objectives. Great for enhancing balance and stabilizing core muscles, it also provides effective use for SMR (self-myofascial release). Which is why I favor the Amazon Basics High Density Round Foam Roller for daily use. It has saved me so many trips to the chiropractor. I simply lie down and roll on it and my back realigns instantly. I also use it for tight leg muscles.
Sawyer Mini Water Filter
You can never be too cautious when it comes to consuming water from an unknown source. This mini water filter is an important part of an emergency preparedness kit but is also great for hiking, camping, and international travel as it removes 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera, and E.coli; and removes 99.9999% of all protozoa, such as giardia and cryptosporidium. This water filter comes with a drinking pouch but also attaches to standard disposable water bottles.
