As you might have guessed, I live an outdoor lifestyle. I’m almost always outside and I’m usually working at harvesting local herbs and mushrooms for my healing salves and tinctures, or teaching others how to make the most of our beautiful natural surroundings. My work is frequently dirty and tough on my clothes; I’m close to the ground, kneeling in the forest, working with sometimes unwieldy, sharp, or heavy natural materials.
My lifestyle and my work style require an unconventional approach to clothing – I need pieces that are exceptionally functional, comfortable, durable, and made to fit my body. There’s plenty of workwear out there for men, which is great – but I’m a woman and my body moves differently when I work – I need more stretch in my fabrics than the traditional, stiff men’s’ workwear fabrics that are so common. I also need real pockets and sturdy belt loops – a place to reliably keep my tools within easy reach.
Designed and sold by three women who decided it was high time women in the trades had something better to wear, I practically live in Dovetail’s work pants and overalls.
They also have an awesome mission that really resonates with me: “To encourage women to enter and succeed in non-traditional occupations. We envision the future as all women fulfilling their personal potential, thriving in their work, and strengthening their communities.”
These clothes are great as workwear but also double as superb hiking and camping pants.
The women at Dovetail have generously offered my readers 10% off when you shop through this link.
