The more we stress the more susceptible we become to an attack on our immune system. In this moment of confusion and chaos, we are easily triggered to absorb things we would have never considered as stressors. However, there are a few techniques that can provide a source of peace, even if it’s temporary. Maybe enough tiny “temporaries” will equal one big immune-fighting protective layer.

According to the CDC, how we cope with stress can, “make your community stronger.” Studies have shown generosity, caring for others, and service are linked to increased mental wellness and health. When dopamine, or the body’s natural “happy”, is released, it leads to less anxiety, lowered blood pressure, and mental clarity.

But HOW do we cope in the middle of a crisis. There is no miracle fix, no magic pill, no tasty potion, it’s just simple adjustments to our day to day.

There are three main factors to consider when it comes to protecting the immune system.

  • Healthy eating; it’s easy to snack when stressed so reach for healthy alternatives more often and leave the rest for occasional crave busters if you must have them.
  • Exercise; it doesn’t mean you have to train for a triathlon, but get up and move around. Dance, walk in place for a few minutes, play physical games with the family, just MOVE.
  • Rest; sleeping and resting are two different things. You can go to sleep but in order to get proper rest, sleep needs to be void of distractions that keep your brain wide awake while your eyes are closed. So keep a regular schedule for bedtime, turn off the noise and turn on relaxing sounds, make it a NO PHONE ZONE, and give bright lights a break.

A few other keys to open the door of peace are much easier to accomplish with little effort.

We are inundated with news of gloom and doom, the best way to battle it is to TURN IT OFF! Take a break from the chatter and strike up a conversation with loved ones that makes you laugh, sing, praise, rejoice, and celebrate JUST BEING.

Unwind with a good book, movie, or music. Find a moment to meditate and refocus your thoughts. But more importantly, don’t allow TODAY to overwhelm your TOMORROW.

Still feeling stressed? This adaptogenic tincture really helps me when I am feeling anxious and stressed.
