All-In-One Natural Resource for Health
Have you ever wanted to learn more about herbal medicine, but didn’t know where to begin? My latest book, The Forgotten Home Apothecary is an excellent resource for those just starting their herbalism journey and individuals who are experienced and would like to deepen their knowledge. I specifically wrote this book to utilize readily available ingredients and plants to treat a wide range of common ailments, from natural pain relief to heavy metal detoxification, personal care products, and much more!
With these simple, DIY remedies, you can stock your herbal medicine chest and be prepared for any illness in case pharmaceuticals and/or first aid supplies are unavailable or if you just want to make your own herbal medicine, as I do. This is knowledge commonly used by our ancestors that has been largely forgotten in our modern age. I’m here to change that! Below I have included detailed information about what you can expect to find within the pages of The Forgotten Home Apothecary, along with a sampling of healing recipes. Let’s begin!
Stocking Your Herbal Medicine Chest
When I set out to compile decades of working knowledge about the world of natural remedies, I wanted to make it as easy as possible for you to be able to make and use these healing formulations. This is why I have organized the book into clear, simple-to-navigate sections, including:
- Equipment and supplies
- Storage and preservation
- Teas, infusions, decoctions, and sun brews
- Tincture making
- Oil infusions
- Oxymels
- Syrups and elixirs
- Lozenges, gummies, and capsules
- Balms, salves, creams, and lotions
- Baths and steams
- Essential oils and hydrosols
I have also divided the book into specific health conditions and their corresponding recipes, including cardiovascular, digestive, and respiratory systems, detoxification, nervous system, auditory and visual system, musculoskeletal health, immunity, skin problems and wounds, personal care products, endocrine system, reproductive system, and urinary system. Each page has high-quality color photographs and clear instructions. What’s more, critical safety information on proper usage and dosage, side effects and allergies, and interactions with medications are included.
DIY Recipes: Pain-Relief, Heavy Metal Detoxifier, & Brain Booster
Amish Ibuprofen
The Amish are famously known for their resourcefulness in using everyday materials in traditional methods — and this includes their holistic approach to health. For pain relief, the recipe below infuses dandelion and rosemary in raw apple cider vinegar to harness the medicinal properties of the herbs in a simple, do-it-yourself home remedy. It offers a natural alternative to over-the-counter and prescription drugs for effective pain relief.
Ingredients
1⁄2 cup dried dandelion flowers, leaves, and roots (1 cup fresh)
1⁄4 cup dried rosemary leaves (1⁄2 cup fresh)
2 cups raw apple cider vinegar (with “the mother” if possible)
Glass jar with a tight-fitting lid
A piece of cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer
Dark glass bottle for storage
Instructions: Place half a cup of dried dandelions and a quarter cup of rosemary into a glass jar. Fill the jar with raw apple cider vinegar, ensuring that the herbs are fully submerged. Seal the jar with a tight-fitting lid. If you are using a jar with a metal lid, cover the top of the jar with plastic wrap, cheesecloth, or baking paper before screwing on the metal lid to prevent corrosion and rusting. Store the jar in a cool, dark place or the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Shake daily. During this time, the dandelion and rosemary will infuse their healing properties into the apple cider vinegar. After 2 weeks, strain the mixture through a piece of cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer, making sure to squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
Storage: Transfer the strained liquid to a dark glass bottle with a plastic lid for storage. You can store it in the fridge or a dark, cool location. If you use fresh herbs, this remedy will last about 6 months. If you are using dried herbs, it should last closer to 9 months.
Dosage: Mix 2 teaspoons of the tonic into a glass of water or herbal tea. Consume up to three times a day.
Safety: Consult a healthcare professional before using this remedy, especially if pregnant, nursing, or have chronic health problems. Discontinue use if you experience any allergic reactions. If taking medications, consult a healthcare provider as herbs may interact with them.
Heavy Metal Detoxifier
In this day and age, it is impossible to avoid exposure to heavy metals whether through the air, soil, water, or food supply. This is why regular detoxification is important to avoid serious health complications down the road. Enjoy this powerful detoxifying blend often to reduce your environmental toxin load.
Ingredients
3⁄4 cup non-GMO papaya
1T moringa powder
1⁄2-inch piece fresh ginger root
Small handful cilantro
Small handful parsley
1 orange, segmented
1t cinnamon
1t vanilla powder
2T chia seeds
1 cup prepared bone broth (or vegetable broth for a vegan option)
1 cup ice
2T raw honey
4T date sugar or 4 pitted raw dates
Instructions: Combine the chia seeds with the bone broth and let them soak while preparing the other ingredients. Use vegetable broth if you are vegan or cannot make bone broth. Gather all your fresh ingredients and cut them into small pieces. Add the ice, soaked chia seeds and broth, papaya, moringa powder, ginger root, cilantro, parsley, orange segments, cinnamon, vanilla powder, honey, and date sugar (or dates) to your blender. Blend until smooth.
Serve: Pour into a glass and drink immediately for best results. If you need to store the drink, keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 24 hours.
Dosage: Drink as often as desired. Consume on an empty stomach and wait at least one hour before eating or taking medication/supplements.

Natural Brain Booster
If you find your memory and cognitive function are less than ideal, this recipe is a simple way to boost your brain power. Instead of relying on coffee, caffeine, or energy drinks, use these all-natural herbs and foods to improve brain function.
Ingredients
2T dried rosemary
1t fennel seeds
3⁄4 cup walnuts
1⁄2 cup pumpkin seeds
Stevia or monk fruit (to taste)
Grinder or blender
Jar for storage
Instructions: Place the dried rosemary, fennel seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and a suitable amount of stevia or monk fruit into your blender or grinder. Process all the ingredients until they are pulverized into a fine powder. This ensures that the flavors and nutrients are well-mixed and easy to absorb.
Storage: Transfer the powder into a clean, sterile jar. Seal the jar tightly to preserve freshness. Keep in the refrigerator to maintain its potency and freshness for up to 4 months.
Serve: Mix two teaspoons of the brain booster powder into a glass of milk, coffee, or a smoothie daily.
Dosage: Take in the morning before a meal or before bedtime.
